Review: Iron Man

Either there is a dearth of good stories or film makers are becoming too lazy to write an original script! And hence comic books are being turned into 2-D/ motion pictures. Following suit like ‘Batman’, ‘Spiderman’, ‘Fantastic Four’, ‘Superman’ etc. we are being presented with ‘Iron Man’!

After getting caught by a group of terrorists, Tony Start (Robert Downey Jr.) a.k.a ‘Iron Man’ built ‘Iron Man’ in order to escape the bad guys. He manages to get home safe and not-so unscathed! While he is in captivity, he meets another engineer who helps save his life. Stark was almost killed because of his missiles, the engineer who is also being held captive, removes a lot of shards from his body and attaches some kind of ‘glow-in-the-dark’ dial which is connected to a car battery, which can keep Stark alive. Upon reaching home he decides to perfect his ‘Iron Man’ with the help of his super brain and hi-tech computers. How the man gets attached to a car battery and how he carries it around with him and manages to build the proto-type in a cave is beyond my understanding. Then again, it’s a fantasy movie and anything is possible. Hell, Iron man can fly (of course with jet-boosters or something!) but he can!

Anyway, Tony Stark is supposed to be one of the leading weapons manufacturers in the world, when the terrorists seize him, they force him to build them some kind of a missile. If he manages to build it, they will spare whatever is left of his life. Instead of building the missile, Stark decides to build an armor which will help him escape.

He successfully builds his proto-type armor and succeeds in escaping. Soon, he realizes how dangerous his business actually is. He was under the impression that he was building weapons for the protection of the American people, but seeing how the same weapons almost caused him to die, he goes through a very serious phase of contemplation and decided that no longer will he be the ‘angel of death’.

And thus to save all those in distress ‘Iron Man’ is born! Though the story continues that while Stark is rebuilding and perfecting his ‘Iron Man’, he realizes that a lot of bad is happening under his name. He soon discovers the identity of the man behind all the bad publicity and destruction, which is no surprise to know that it is someone who is very closely associated with him! This leads to a fight scene between the good guy and the bad guy and of course the good guy wins! This fight is nothing so awesome, I mean if you’ve seen one confrontation fight scene, you’ve seen them all!

I wasn’t a very big fan of Robert Downey Jr. and to be honest I had only seen a bit of his performance on ‘Ally Mc Beal’ and ‘Gothica’ which were just about average! Even after his performance in Iron Man my opinion hasn’t undergone any serious alteration! Though the dialogue delivery was pretty good!

It puzzles me though to think why on earth or how did Gwyneth Paltrow agree to play ‘Pepper Pots’ (though I think the name is adorable!), maybe she needed the money?

If you watch this movie as an element of entertainment, then its good fun! No slapstick comedy or overly romantic dialogues, but if you try to make sense of it, then good luck trying to preserve your sanity! Some scenes of how he is trying to improve the mechanics of the armour and the experiments in the basement were cute.

The movie I guess can be worth a watch if you have nothing else to do or simply because you don’t want to burn yourself to a crisp in this summer heat! No phenomenal acting as such, but good fun nonetheless! Also I am guessing that if you have read this and not seen the movie yet, I probably have given away the entire movie and left very little to the suspense, but uh hello! On the up-side I have saved you an abominable amount of cash which you probably would have ended up spending!

  1. It’s still worth spending and the ‘in the cave building the suit’ is because they are engineers and they have the supplies, and fantasy’s been explained in this movie and the hints of a sequel sure is there and hope to see it definitely…..
