RACE …For What?

Yesss!!! This indeed is the review and the most candid opinion I will post!! So are we buckled up?

I have just reached home from watching ‘Race’, don’t think there is any need to tell you about the cast or anything, so I shall just give you my take on the three hour long journey. There is one big plot for a lot of money who everyone seems to be after. So you have these two brothers fighting with each other these silent and non-verbal battles under the pretense of unconditional love. They plot and they lie, they plot and they conspire and they plot and they deceive each other and others around them. Apart from all the plotting you will also see a lot of cleavage throughout the film. There is Katrina Kaif now looking more Barbie doll-ish (which seems to be her USP), Bipasha looking sizzling as a temptress as she does with a lot of ‘oomph’. You will see Sameera Reddy in a role where she is oxymoronically masquerading as a dumb blonde in brunette’s hair! Saif looks fat and old, Akshey Khanna looks fat and Anil Kapoor is trying very hard to hide his age behind awful hair colouring!

There are too many songs in the movie that seem like they are trying to compete with ‘Mauja hi mauja’, and ‘Dhoom again’. The movie is an over exaggerated version of Dhoom-2 and is almost mostly senseless. The director and script writers have tried very hard it seems to include some humour into the movie and the dialogues, but sadly that attempt has failed miserably. No one has done phenomenal acting or portrayed anything that is going to leave anyone thought-provoking! The thing about Race is that there is nothing even remotely intelligent in it. It’s a movie for pure time pass and entertainment and it seems to have done most of what it set out to do. Unfortunately, the cast has not been selected well because the men are clearly too old to be cast opposite women who seem half their age. And all have tried very hard to imitate Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan and probably even Imran Haashmi to some extent (watch the movie and you will see what I mean!).

The interesting thing about this movie is that there is no ‘boy-meets-girl-and-they-fall-in-love’ story, in fact the word love comes up no more than once in the movie! There is however, portrayal and depiction of human sins - lust, greed, pride, anger, loath, wrath et al. the only part where I saw gluttony (and I do not mean the audience gorging on popcorn and nachos and hot dogs!) was when Anil Kapoor enters the movie. He has consumed so much fruit in the movie that I think he might be a subliminal message for the audience to eat healthy! But seriously, I have never seen so much fruit being shown in a movie, let alone being eaten by a single member of cast.

The high point of the movie is the clothes and the shoes and the accessories that the women are sporting. Lots of good ideas and lots of innovations to try out! On a more serious note, this movie does not promote any good human values or habits; it openly shows all that is wrong and probably harmful, except smoking and drugs. There is no ‘if someone hits you on one cheek, turn the other cheek forward’, it’s more like – if someone hits you on one cheek, make sure you avenge that cheek by killing off the bastard! It’s a completely senseless movie and a time pass (good or bad, you decide) is all I can say!

  1. Well yeah, it’s just a time pass. An average bolly flick. But you can’t disagree that Katrina looks freaking hot in toned body :D

  2. yeah, but she looks like tht a lot ..and she seems to be looking exactly the same human-barbie-look-alike in every movie she does ..!! i really wish tht either the directors put her histrionic skills to the test or tht she took herself a little more seriously !!

  3. Actually, Katrina was a part of the film only because she fit that that role and obviously to up the glam quotient which was the USP of Race. Wish they had worked a bit on editing of the film!
