- Know your objective of writing a resume, which is to get an interview call for the job. Never forget that the prospective employer to whom you are sending your resume will already have many resumes to deal with. Make your resume attractive, informative and quick-to-read.
- Ensure that your resume follows a proper format. A clear format will make the employer interested in your resume and further in you as the employee. It is better to avoid multi-colors or flashy images. You should never highlight any part of the resume as well.
- Do not make your resume more than a couple of pages long, else your prospective employer may ignore your resume if it is longer than usual. Do not use a font which is not good to read or its size is not readable.
- A resume is for your marketing, make its full use. The idea is to project yourself as a right candidate for the job. Be sure enough that your resume notices your strengths and thus ensures it shows what makes distinct from the other applicants for the job.
- Use bullets to make your information pointed and easy to read. Avoid paragraphs as they will make your resume monotonous and uninteresting. The bulleted text helps in getting the reader's attention straight into your resume.
- Always write about your achievements or the positive aspects about your career. Emphasize on the important aspects of the jobs you have taken previously. For example, if you have changed your career from the initial degree you had, do not mention that degree if it is irrelevant to your job.
