The skill of resume writing
Jun 01, 2007
Your resume reaches your employer before you. Therefore it has to be impressive so that your prospective employer and the company finds out all details about you. Your resume has to be accurate and pointed to be able to quickly communicate your qualifications, work abilities and other important details.
An unattractive resume just gets lost in the pile of resumes and is further dumped in recycle bins before your employer realizes its importance. Thus a badly-written resume does not succeed to get a second thought for, leave aside the chances of an interview.
Now that you have decided to improve your resume, you can either write it yourself or get it done from an experienced resume writer. What is important here is that the writer should know the skill of resume writing. Here are some tips:
- Write clearly. Use a good font and proper size. The commonly used font type is Times new Roman of 12 point size. It should have all the required spaces in between points and paragraphs.
- If you are a beginner in your career, mention your education details first. But if you have a considerable experience, you should mention your experience before your education with good emphasis. Otherwise, your hard earned experience may lose its significance. You should mention your job experience in reverse order, that is starting with your current job.
- Mention your skills which make you the right candidate deserving the job. Your job skills are very important as most of the job agencies and HR officials look for the unique skills in resumes. If you would mention them separately they will not ignore them in your resume and things will become easy for you. For example, those who are in a good technical career for example engineering or Information technology, you should make groups of your skills just at the upper side of resume.
- Use Keywords: This is an era when keywords are used just about everywhere; not just the search engines. Put appropriate keywords in your resume so that it gets indexed by crawlers when employers are searching for candidate CVs.
